This is purely a rumor: Another Nikon FF DSLR is to be announced March 2008, 24MP, D300 body, priced at about $2500.

This isn’t horrifically hard to believe other than the price-point. I’m betting/guessing it’d be hard to produce a chip that big and that dense and still be able to his that price.

However- with such a large and dense chip, I’m guessing that they can afford to map out more defects than they would ordinarily and still get good IQ- thus reducing the throw-aways and therefor the price.
