Heliopan Thin Filters vs Your Nikon Pinch Lens-cap
[edited: It's HELIOPAN that I had trouble with.]
So I buy my really super-nifty Zeiss ZF 50mm Nikon-F mount lens and a swell Heliopan 58mm polarizing slim filter ($118!! No reason to buy a mega-highres lens and have it hobbled by your filter glass, says I) and I slap it on and find out that the pinch-type lens caps the Nikon makes won’t fit into the filter because there isn’t enough depth.
So keep that in mind the next time you’re buying a filter for a new lens. And fwiw, I had to visit an old-school camera shop and have them rummage around to find the non-pinch kind of filter that does OVER the filter/lens.
Would the Zeiss lens cap work? No clue- I dropped it about 2ms after taking it out of the box and one side of the ‘pinch’ came off, I lost the microscopic spring and it’s useless after that.
This is mildy OT, but I want to get this out there so you don’t run into the same issue.

Bummer. Though seems a bit naff that the lens cap broke after dropping it only once. I’m sure the build quality of the lens is much better!
Oh, and I noticed the new banner
Hope they are, my D70s is not too well after dropping it a couple of weeks ago, and I’m itching to get the D300.
(No, it wasn’t intentional or a subliminal attempt to justify getting the D300!)

Hoya or Heliopan?

I assume you mean Heliopan. I don’t think you could pay $118 for a 58mm Hoya if you tried.
