Nikon Coming to India!
India may have a lot of tasty things but, from what I’ve been able to gather (let me know if I’m wrong), there isn’t any authorized Indian Nikon reseller.
This is a problem when the warranties are only good for the country you bought them in (a really terrible idea, as far as I’m concerned- if you stand behind your product in the US, then you should also stand behind the same product if I buy it in Canada) and the Indian Nikon lovers have to pay ~10% more for their gray-market, no-warranty gear.
But the rumor is that that’s all changing:
Rumor making the rounds here in local forums is that Nikon is finally coming to India with Nikon Store. Official Nikon supposedly selling at about 10% over current grey prices.
This is a big deal in that the authorized Nikon Digital dealers are charging US2400+ for D200 body and grey are under US1500. Grey prices are about 10% higher (eg: 70-300vr $600, 50 1.8D $135) than US Nikon but Nikon warranty here is anywhere from 30-100% more.
Canon currently doing better because of big Canon network with 2 year warranty. Nikon very popular but does not have the support network and prices are high.
