I’ve seen a couple of threads now that talk about a sparkly bunch of detritus around the inner black ring (between the first and second element).

I looked at mine and it’s there too, but I’m certain that it’s simply the finish put onto that area of the lenses, it definitely doesn’t appear to be anything negative like dust or metal shavings, etc.

I took some shots though and this appears to show it the best (click for large version):

(I didn’t worry about my technique on this shot, it was -quick- and dirty)Some of those spots are definitely on the glass and will come off with a wipe but the area where the arrows are is what I’m referring to. That black ring has them all around the lens.

I’ll eat a potato if this is a problem though. I think people are being a bit over-concerned about their new, expensive babies– can’t totally blame them though.
