D3x – Undergoing Testing Before Field Trials?

Globetrotter appears to have some inside info:

The updated DSLR’s have been ready for some time and are just going through the normal stringent testing prior to going out to Nikon pros for final pre-release workouts. So we’ll have the next one more likely being used at the Olympics. …

I’m pretty skeptical about this, but Nikon does appear to be trying to take back a lot of the pro market from Canon- and they did use the D3’s at the Osaka games, so I suppose if it was going to happen, the Olympics would be a good place to let the pros use the D3x…

This doesn’t make sense because most of the rumors for the “D3X” describe it as a very high mpixel unit aimed at studio and landscape shooters. The Olympics needs a D3 with high ISO + 9 fps and good enough for a two-page magazine spread, and that’s different from the studio and landscape shooters’ needs.
