Japan- Yes, We Have No D40x’s
Well this is strange- apparently D40x’s are getting stretched thin in Japan.
PMA Newsline International are reporting that stocks of the 10 mgapixel Nikon D40x DSLR camera have run out in Japan. Could this mean that a new replacement model is on the way? The 6 megapixel Nikon D40 model is still available. In the same article, Nikon is raising production of its new D3 and D300 DSLR cameras by between 16-25 percent, to 10,000 and 70,000 monthly units respectively. All good news for the leading DSLR manufacturer in Japan.
With any other company, this would mean that a new model is coming online and they’re reducing the amount of stock in the channel, etc.
But with Nippon Kogaku, you can never know- they tend to be out of any random item at any random time. I’ve seem reports on various lists that claim that lenses or other accessories have been in the Nikon repair shops for months on end awaiting for parts.
I suggest waiting for the price reductions- when you see them reduce the prices significantly, I normally start smelling new model.
