These fall into the UNSUBSTANTIATED but possible category:

I saw a thread on FredMiranda that indicated a reasonable source said that this particular lens would appear at the END of 2008….maybe beginning of 2009.

Other lenses reported to be in the 2008 pipeline are:

85mm f/2 AFS VRII
Updated 70-200mm
Updated 80-400mm
50mm 1.4 AFS
A tilt shift lens…. 

Boy, updated 50mm would get my cash if it was sharp and not stupidly priced. I’d throw $400 or so at it, I’d double that if it was a Nokton… The pros will be happy with some new tilt-shifts and an updated 70-200mm wouldn’t hurt but are we begging for it? Maybe it’s the same optical formula with Nano-Crystals (NANO! WHEE!) and VR-2?
Also:

New rumors: Nikon will announe the new following lenses at PMA:
AF-S 85 f/1.4G ED
AF-S 28 f/1.4G ED
AF-S 24-120 f/4.0G ED VR

A new 85 would be nice, but I just blew a lot of money on a Zeiss ZF 35mm, but Nikon lost my money on a 28mm by remaining silent and giving no cues.

Notice we’ve got some conflict here- One rumor says 85 f/1.4 another says f/2 and I’d must prefer a fast wide-open lens because that’s my style…
