What's unclear is whether items deleted in Belgium are discontinued by Nikon Japan or whether the Belgium entity has decided not to carry them in that market. A few years ago, there was a flurry of activity over something discontinued in Belgium that wasn't discontinued elsewhere.

But assuming the Belgium catalog does represent the overall Nikon reality, what also should be noted is not just those two lenses that were explicitly discontinued, but lenses that are no longer listed at all. They include:
70-300 4.0-5.6 G
28-70 2.8 D (also marked as discontinued by B&H in New York)
24-85 3.5-4.5 G
and the old 400, 500 and 600mm lenses, even though the new 500 and 600 haven't seemed to hit retailers as yet.

Also, the 18-55 3.5-5.6 G ED II appear discontinued except for kits in favor of the 18-55 G VR.

Bodies: The D40x, D2Xs and D200 are gone from the catalog. The D40 is now available only with the new 18-55 VR lens.

You wouldn't know any of this from visiting either the US, UK or Japan Nikon websites. I believe they still list all of the above supposedly discontinued items.
