Nikon Australia: The 85mm f/1.4 Sleeps with the Fishes

This is an ex-parrot!” “She’s dead, Jim.” (For my foreign friends who may be reading this via translation software, these are silly ways of saying something is dead.)

Well, discontinued in Australia, but we’ve seen items like this before. The 17-35mm was discontinued in Belgium, so I guess they tend to do this when their stock is depleted and they aren’t expecting any more shipments.

Please, please, please,  let some wonderful primes be on their way!

I just called one of my local camera shops in Toronto and the sales person said that with the Olympics coming up Nikon is running low on lots of equipment, which offers at least a partial explanation for the notice from Nikon Australia that included a number of long telephoto lenses. Maybe they really are just out of stock at the present time. That isn’t to say that the current 85mm isn’t going to be EOL’d, just that there may be other explanations for its absence. Just my 2c CDN (now worth ~ 2c US!)
