More Strobist Rumors: New Lenses, 16bit DAC, more…
[Update: added the stricken text- this "Strobist" is not THE Strobist, so I don't put any faith in what he's reporting.]
Again, remember, that this “Strobist” is not THE Strobist.
Also speed increase in the 51 point autofocus provided by the Multi-CAM3500 chip and an increase in 14-bit analog-to-digital converter now 16-bit analog-to-digital convertor to work alongside the existing 16 bit image processor.
Also Nikon Active D Lighting has also been further refined to increase capturing of high and low lights with a manual mode for setting user defined personal settings.
And finally Nikons CLS and Commander mode has also been tweaked more info on this to come.Remember you hear it hear first from Digital D here at stobistonline.
Lots of new info here and the Strobist is really well liked, I can very much see him getting info that others haven’t or aren’t will to divulge.
CLS tweaks, eh? Might we see an improved SB-800 (SB-900?) The Command SU-800 could also be made way smaller… and have a built-in radio for god sake.
This is the only camera store that NikonWatch trusts- never any hassle, gimmicks, or problems:

“Another major snippet for you too is that DX lense users will be able to shoot at the old D3 pixel count of just over 12 million pixels with Nikons **new range of lenses taking advantage of the full 24.4 million pixels.”**
That last part doesn’t make sense to me. It implies that only a forthcoming lens can take advantage of the full FX 24.4 million pixels and that current non-DX lenses can’t. Since I don’t believe that Nikon will change mounts and I don’t believe that any new Nikon will have a sensor larger than FX-sized, unless Nikon is going to claim that only these new lenses have the quality to resolve the full 24 million pixels, it makes this whole rumor unreliable, in my opinion.

That is clear as daylight to me that when using a DX lense on a D3, the camera will switch to 5mpx crop mode, likewise, a 24mpx D3X will switch to a 12 mpx crop mode when a DX lens is attached.

I’m not arguing the DX reference, I’m arguing that the quote “with Nikon’s new range of lenses taking advantage of the full 24.4 million pixels” implies a new range of lenses whereas Nikon already has “FX” lenses - which are everything EXCEPT the DX lenses.
