Foto-Numerique: D700 Actual Shots? WTF Knows?

Honestly don’t know what to make of this one- chaos is reigning, I can’t tell fake from maybe real any more with the D700. This article isn’t helping much- they’ve actually got a shot of the “D700″ next to a D3 and there aren’t any markings on it- there’s no “D700″ on it or “D3′ marking on the D3

When Nikon sends out engineering test cameras, do they not have the model number silk-screened onto the body? And if they did, why would the D3 not have marking? Strange, tending toward fake?

Here’s the article and here’s the translation:

Also, it occurs to me- if it has a built-in sensor cleaner, then how is it possible that it’s using the same chip as the D3? Is the cleaning independent of the chip? If it’s the same sensor as the D3 AND has sensor cleaning, isn’t that a step up?!Furthermore, why aren’t we seeing a huge lens like the 85mm f/1.4 on there? Nikon tends to put overly large lenses on their product shots… I might be reading too much into that in this case.

This is the only camera store that NikonWatch trusts- never any hassle, gimmicks, or problems:

  1. Nico in China Says:

According to the french video : the viewer is only 95% because of the sensor-cleaning device who hides some part of the sensor to the viewer. Seems to be more like a different design option than a step up.

Appart from that, not much news in the video, he says it’s a new segment in Nikon line, 5fps (8 with the grip), and less than 1kg for the body alone.

Well, seems to be real now. With regards to the non-silkscreened camera bodies: perhaps they are both prototypes/test mules/pre-production units/whatever. Maybe the “D3″ is actually the D3X.

I believe the dust shaker is built into the frame that holds the sensor, not the sensor itself.

Looking at the released specs, I think the $4800 D3 is going to get nailed unless the D3X is priced in the stratosphere at $8,000 or so. Getting sandwiched between the D700 and D3X will be a tight spot to occupy otherwise. If it does survive, maybe it will be upgraded to a D3s with dust shake, etc.
