Nikon D3 Buffer Upgrade- How to Tell
Harrison, on a Nikon list, writes that he had the buffer upgrade done a week ago and there’s a change to the menu to tell you if it was upgraded:

upper right corner showing two memory chips and a “2X” to indicate
the buffer upgrade.
This is important because when you buy a used D3 or sell yours, you’ll want to know or be able to show that it was upgraded.
This is the only camera store that NikonWatch trusts- never any hassle, gimmicks, or problems:

I’m the Harrison referenced in here. There’s another way that is also sort of obvious, though the firmware version is still the best way- I didn’t realize it till today, but nikon put a sticker with the same 2x memory chip icon on the inside of the card door. If this is broken off naturally the sticker will be gone.
